Interviu acordat în cadrul emisiunii "Jazz & blues à la carte".
Moderator-Lee Hedley mă bucur să te întâlnesc, mă bucur să ascult blues-ul care vine din Belfast, Lee Hedley Band este o formaţie născută în Irlanda de Nord ,din acelaşi oraş din care a venit si Gary Moore, Belfast.
Spune-mi te rog cum aţi ajuns in România?
LEE HEDLEY-Trăim la 10 mile vest de Belfast şi un vechi prieten din orasul meu, Gary Ingram care acum trăieşte în tara voastră, m- a sunat şi m-a întrebat dacă cumva nu am putea face un turneu aici.
A stabilit zborurile , concertele şi aveam pregătit un concert tribute pentru Gary Moore de la a cărui moarte a trecut un an de zile şi am zis că ar fi foarte bine şi iată-ne aici în seara asta unde am cantat căntecele lui Gary Moore, dar pentru concertul de mâine avem un mix de blues, rock dar şi cântecele lui Moore.
Moderator- L-ai întâlnit vreodată pe Gary Moore, aţi vorbit?
LLE HEDLEY- Nu , niciodată ,din păcate, era un tip faimos şi dorea să fie mai retras, nu se întâlnea cu mulţi oameni, era foarte rezervat,nu se amesteca cu ceilalţi ,foarte tăcut, îl puteai vedea doar pe scenă, la concerte, după care dispărea pur si simplu.
Ei bine, eu am 42 de ani şi cânt de când aveam 20 de ani , muzică soul , fiind influenţat de Otis Redding, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Led Zeppelin, Free, Rolling Stones, dar şi de Who, din cântecele cărora vom cânta şi aici; multă energie pe care o dau la rându-mi publicului…şi dacă eu mă simt bine şi publicul se va simţi bine!
Moderator-Crezi în muzica live!?
LEE HEDLEY- Este totul,este vital, este ceva esenţial, muzica trebuie să fie live, trebuie să comunici, trebuie să te conectezi cu publicul, nu toată lumea poate obţine asta dar sunt destul de matur să comunic cu oamenii şi am un răspuns bun întotdeauna şi mă bucur să văd oamenii entuziasmaţi … să se simtă bine…
Moderator-Căutand pe internet am văzut că ai căntat cu mulţi muzicieni celebri…cu The Comittments…
LEE HEDLEY - Da, am cântat cu The Corrs, The Commitments, cu Westlife..cu chitaristul lui Muddy Waters, John Prior, chitaristul care i-a fost alaturi timp de 8 ani de zile, iar noi am cantat cu John în turnee timp de 2 ani, am fost ca ucenici săi .
Era "boss-ul" nostru, ne-a învăţat multe şi am petrecut clipe nemaipomenite alături de el ;
apoi am cântat cu fratele lui Buddy Guy, Phil Guy din Chicago pînă cănd acesta a murit , acum 2 ani, am cântat alături de el, Chicago blues, mă consider cu adevărat un tip foarte norocos.
Suntem pentru prima oară in România dar sigur nu va fi pentru ultima oară şi ne vom întoarce în curand..
Moderator-O primă părere despre România?
LEE HEDLEY-Oamenii sunt foarte la locul lor , prietenoşi, calzi, oneşti…cred că avem multe lucruri în comun..
Moderator.-Şi în special muzica…ce înseamnă blues-ul pentru tine, cum îl simţi?
LEE HEDLEY - Înseamnă ‘feeling-ul’, este ceea ce trăieşti zi de zi ,nu este o melodie ci un sentiment şi fiecare cântec înseamnă altceva pentru fiecare om iar in concert când interpretezi un anumit cântec de blues unii poate îi cunosc refrenul,alţi nu, dar el este primit diferit, blues-ul este un medicament pentru suflet, atunci când eşti supărat, când ai avut o zi proastă îţi pui un cântec de blues şi …te simţi din nou bine, eşti vindecat, asta înseamnă pentru mine blues-ul!
Moderator-Cum te aproprii de un blues celebru pe care îl vei interpreta?
LEE HEDLEY - Trebuie să înţelegi căntecul cât mai bine pentru că îl vei cânta din inimă.
Nu trebuie să înveţi o poezie, să memorezi o melodie, trebuie să o simţi ca să o faci credibilă, trebuie să te aproprii de versuri ca să le cânţi din interiorul tău şi atunci când poţi face asta poţi spune că ţi-ai făcut treaba bine şi să speri că publicul s-a bucurat de aceasta.
Moderator-Ai căntat pe multe scene în ţări diferite, poţi să vezi un viitor pentru blues?
LEE HEDLEY –Eu cred că acum e mai multă nevoie de blues decât a fost vreodată!
Cu toate problemele financiare , cu războaiele, cu criza locurilor de muncă, cu banii, cu proprietăţile … cred că oamenii se întorc din ce în ce mai mult înspre blues, descoperă că face bine sufletului lor ,cred că oamenii apreciază blues-ul acum mai mult decât odinioară, eu aşa simt !
Moderator-Mă gândesc la cei tineri..!
LEE HEDLEY - Nu cred că îl ascultau prea mult înainte dar astăzi când sunt vremuri aşa de grele, ei descoperă că ascultând blues se simt mai bine, asta-i foarte adevărat!
Moderator-În tinereţea ta ai cântat şi alte genuri muzicale precum jazz…?
LEE HEDLEY-Da, muzicuţa este primul instrument la care am cantat apoi a fost chitara slight, dar nu o folosesc şi în turneul actual din cauza lui Gary Moore, pentru că piesele sale nu au nevoie de muzicuţă, dar de obicei cânt la muzicuţă piesele lui Little Walter, Paul Butterfield, J. Geils Band ,british R’N’B dar şi Rory Ghalagher, da iubesc muzicuţa, este un instrument simplu de cântat dar foarte expresiv.
Moderator.-Aveţi multe muzicuţe?
LEE HEDLEY - Da, sunt muzicuţe pentru diferite registre ,A, B, C…am 8 muzicuţe şi în funcţie de ce cânta trupa, în ce ton, aleg muzicuţa potrivită, dacă cânt cântecele lui Paul Butterfield, iau un microfon vechi la care cânta si Paul la muzicuţă îl înfig în amplificator şi am sound-ul de Chicago Blues!
Moderator.-Vorbeşte-mi şi de trupa ta!
LEE HEDLEY-Suntem o trupă simplă de tip rock’n’roll fără sintetizatoare, fără ritmuri preînregistrate ,suntem o trupă complet live iar băieţii pot cânta orice, de la rock’n’roll-ul anilor 50 cu Chuck Berry,Carl Perkins, Elvis până la Dr.Feelgood, piesele clasice ale lui Led Zeppelin şi apoi pot trece imediat la Otis Redding, James Brown, orice le-aş cere, nu ştiu ce le voi cere să cântăm, căci nici eu nu ştiu…în fiecare show mă uit la public şi aleg un cantec…dacă nu merge prea bine îl schimb ; în aceasta seara am avut o listă specifică de cantece (cele ale lui Gary Moore) dar de obicei nu am un playlist prestabilit, depinde de public; dacă oboseşte cânt ceva slow, dacă vrea să danseze accelerez şi termin undeva sus…
Moderator-Un sfat pentru tinerii ascultători de jazz & blues, pentru cei care nu au cântat vreodată…!
LEE HEDLEY - Le-aş zice să asculte ceva vechi , nişte Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Etta James apoi să se înconjoare de Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, să asculte adevăratele valori ale soul-ului şi blues-ului şi de aici prieteni, veţi găsi noi drumuri, vă veti descoperi gustul; dar ascultaţi mai întâi originalele , apoi ascultaţi Eric Clapton, Joe Bonamasa, Gary Moore, Rory Ghalagher, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, dar mai întâi să ascultaţi Otis Redding ,Sam Cook, Wilson Pickett, Muddy Waters, Little Walter,Howlin Wolf, B.B. King şi veţi găsi ceea ce căutaţi iar lumea ar putea fi un pic mai bună, chiar aşa…
